What do grownups do all day?

Hi there-

Isn't it fascinating how the curiosity of children has a way of making us examine our own lives? My kids often ask me about the mystery that is “work”. Just the other day, with her school year drawing to a close, my daughter asked me when I would be done for the year. I was happy to tell her about the beautiful puzzle that is adulthood, where work interweaves with life, and--if we're fortunate--doesn't quite feel like "work" at all. At the ripe old age of 33, I hope I always find joy and fulfillment in my work so profound that the idea of retirement holds no appeal.

My wife Rachel and I have the good fortune of owning and managing a real estate brokerage full of some of the best humans we know here in Southern Delaware. Our ventures now also extend to a property management company, a mortgage brokerage, shared ownership in an insurance brokerage and a small Software as a Service (SAAS) company. In our 'spare' time--when we aren't trying to squeeze in a date night around our kids' crazy evening schedules--we still find ourselves drawn to real estate development and property acquisition. At the heart of each of these ventures is the incredible community that makes Southern Delaware a wonderful place to live and raise our children. Our primary focus--and the reason we love what we do so much--is to take advantage of the opportunity to uplift and serve our community. This journey, filled with daily lessons, mistakes, and successes, continues to be an exhilarating ride, even after seven years.

So, what does an average day look like for me now? Once I've completed my morning routine, I like to dedicate my time to learning and reading. Not Stephen King or Tom Clancy--although I did thoroughly enjoy King's latest masterpiece, "Fairy Tale." My reading list is full of business books, industry-specific publications, self-improvement blogs or articles, and a handful of really insightful newsletters. Why? As the leader of these businesses, my responsibility extends beyond day-to-day operations. My role is to envision, inspire, innovate, make decisions, and strive to be the best version of myself I can be.

With this in mind, I've decided to take a stab at sharing my learnings, both old and new, with you. I believe in the ripple effect of shared knowledge, and I hope my insights will positively impact those who read them. So I'm setting out on a new venture, a weekly email newsletter encompassing diverse topics from business, health, and fitness, to technology, movies, music, and more. Expect insights from best-selling business books, thought-provoking articles, industry-leading podcasts, and even captivating TED Talks that I've found particularly enlightening.

Far from being a guru or expert, I'm simply someone who is enthusiastic about learning and sharing. If my musings resonate with you and leave you with even a small nugget, I hope you'll join me on this weekly journey. If you find value in these emails, feel free to share them with others who might appreciate them too. And if it's not for you, no hard feelings - you can easily unsubscribe at the end of any email.

Thank you for sharing a moment of your valuable time with me--I recognize that time is perhaps the most precious resource we have. I'm genuinely excited to embark on this journey together.

Best,

Dustin
